Wish Lists

Wish Lists

A portfolio of 40 prints on paper, which are hung side-by-side with metal push pins.

Wish Lists is a portfolio of forty wish lists gathered from public websites on the Internet. Individually, the lists describe each author's state of need or wanting, providing a window into their hopes, desires, and even weaknesses. They are at once the embodiment of hopefulness and the very picture of destitution. By asking for help, for a gift, for the fulfillment of a need or desire, the authors are cast with a subtle vulnerability. This contrast of positive and negative characteristics is what I'm most interested in: wishing and wanting, hope and vulnerability. Interesting also is that these complex portraits—of individuals and of our culture—can be elicited by such seemingly meager and life-less lists.
