Artist-in-Research at The Berwick Institute
During my residency I investigated seating plan arrangements in the context of weddings: how complex family relationships are confronted and mediated via event seating arrangements. Interested in how an issue so practical in nature can both produce and assuage emotional tension, I interviewed nearly a dozen couples about the planning of their weddings. We discussed everything from picking a cake to managing inter-family relationships. After working with the video footage from these interviews, I ultimately focused on the actual seating plans as documents, later turning this research into a piece titled Seating Plans. The Berwick maintains my project journal and final report on their website.
